Hi and Welcome to the King Community
All players in the game are real players. All players do not play daily or are inactive for some periods, therefore they do not generate any points in team activities for example.
Some players haven't saved their game via Facebook or by creating a King account, these players appear in the game as 'Player' and with a random character from any of the King games.
At the moment due to temporary problems you are facing such a problem. Work is underway to resolve the issue and you will find detailed information HERE
Once the work for the Weekly Race is completed, your race will work normally again.

Happened to me on F5 all of a sudden my team disappeared and I was in a team with md5. Had problems with F 5 last year too. I’m getting friends randomly on regular game too.

Hello cinpap the glitch you were told about only refers to the issue of players receiving impossibly high scores in the Weekly Contest.
You can't get away from random players in Candy Crush as random players are part of all of their features/events. It might be different if you play through Facebook, but I couldn't say for sure.
