I'm having the same issue. Been stuck there for two days, using lots of boosters for nothing (and not being able to finish challenges) because the bombs act like a regular bomb instead of spawning the crystals. 🙄
And I have no updates.

This looks like new bomb design that they tested already. Let the bombs explode and they should spawn crystal candies.
