They disappeared for seemingly everyone in october of 2022, and no one seems to have reported having them since. Did King decide not to go forward with these features? I don't get it.

Hi Goldenswordz I am only guessing, but based on comments about other changes to the game I would say that the features have been removed to make way for more entertaining things (their words, not mine)
