Unfortunately, there's no way of communicating with other players. Even this website doesn't have a private messaging feature. Not anymore anyway. It's unbelievable. Socialising has been totally taken out of the game.
This said, you'd need to know your in-game friends beforehand via other means - Facebook, forum, real life etc. They are forcing us to use 3rd party programs or websites such as Discord or Facebook/Reddit if we want to stay in touch.
