Does the timer for lives or anything for that matter stop, when I have to leave the game?

I hesitate to purchase a $99 package that last for a limited amount of time, if the xlock continues to run when I leave the game.

As pointed out above, all timers in the game run in real time. This is why you should only buy timed stuff when you're sure you'll make the most of it before it expires.

(!)Nota bene: If you have video ads (and Sweet Cinema) right now, you will most definitely lose them after making a purchase.

All timers in the game are real time and not playing time.

When you purchase any timed items like 1h Color Bombs, the time will start counting right away and will be real time.
