How to jump thousands of points in "Star Tournament"...?

So the past month or so I have participated in the Star Tournament when I run out of levels to play. I typically make it to the top 5 or so. But for the past 3 weeks, I have my score (typically in the thousands of stars) jumped by players randomly. They are not ranked below me on the leaderboard. They come out of nowhere and suddenly have 800+ more stars. So I overcome the gap, (shhabtalal was at 1725 for 18 hours, player didn't change any points in that time, but I got to 1826. Suddenly, player has 1905 stars when the end of my match takes me back to the leaderboard screen). You HAVE to explain how this can be legit. Same with Apmak (suddenly 2085).
Been online with the game all day, and this is not the first time this has happened.
