we Used to play with friends all the time. But now, if you do well in a week you lose friends, play with strangers and have little chance of winning because those players clear 1000’s of levels in a day

Are you talking about the "Weekly Race"?
If so, I have noticed that in Weekly Race feature, players from lower levels, or even the ones that has just started playing and also the players from higher levels - all are grouped together!
The players in the higher levels have a hard time to win the levels, whereas the players in lower levels can pass them without much struggle! So, if you are grouped with the players that have just started playing the game, obviously they will win 1000's of levels without any struggle. And for those players, the Gold Bars they win in the Episode Races will help to move ahead!! So, now you know how they are winning too many levels where as we are left with not too many levels by end of the week!!
