Maybe so. Maybe Candy Crush did once have an exit button. But Candy Crush also used to be a fun game. Candy Crush used to be playable in Landscape mode. Candy Crush used to let you pass a level if you were stuck on it for weeks. Candy Crush indefinite lives and boosters deals used to be worth spending money on as they would give you hours of fun rather than hours of frustration. As far as I am concerned the missing exit button is the least of our problems. As others have pointed out here, there are other ways to exit the game. Getting the fun back into playing the game seems a bigger priority to me.

Just close the app. You don't need to use the exit button
There has never been an exit button in Candy Crush Saga like that in Soda, as far as I can remember and I have never missed it. There are plenty of other ways to leave an app, any app. I can't really think of many apps that I have on my device that do have an exit button. You just go out of it. That is certainly how we play on mobile. Might be a different issue for PC users, but the game is heading towards a mobile only interface now.
