New Map: Baffled by ongoing revamp.

Currently, I'm baffled by 2 implementations in the new map.
1) by removal of completed level status bar; and
2) by pics/avatars next to levels.
Completed level status bar showing scoreboard of player friends on each level was there since Day 1 of game release. In my opinion, this was the most pleasing feature. Now it was removed. Previously it took 1 click on any completed level on the old map to show the status bar at the bottom n see scoreboard of that level. Now on the revamped map, it requires 2 steps: Own Profile icon/Friends then scroll drop-down list of player friends.
As for pics/avatars next to levels, I can't match most of them with the friends/friendship (Add more friends) lists especially the avatars and most pics. What is the purpose?

I can confirm that there is a group of players that do not have the Top friends list which means that you can no longer receive or send lives to other players through the toplist.
One of our lovely members @Espiralado has suggested a workaround that might be helpful, check it out HERE.
