This seems to be a fairly new glitch in the game. One of many. One of far too many. It's been reported here a few times in the past week. I guess you'll just have to forfeit the level, close the game, reopen, play it again and hope it won't happen next time. Just like all those other glitches in the game. Too numerous to mention.....
