I used to be matched to players with similar ranking on weekly candycrush saga game. However now there is always a player who is ranked 8000 or even 9000 and wins every week. Thus is totally unfair and makes winning the weekly prize impossible!

It is not because of their banner or which levels they play. King choose the players for you according to how well you play. So if you win the weekly races several weeks in a row they will add "random" players to your game to make the event "more challenging" for you to win! The game is so manipulated to make players spend more money, they don't want you to win the weekly race every week!
The weekly race is fixed in a manner that the players you play against are not actually playing against you at all. They have different competitors in their weekly race. It is, like the episode race and Candy Royale, an illusionary race, where really you are just competing against the game to win the prize.
