Frozen on Candy Box pop up

For several days now, one of the MANY, many, many pop up game things within Candy Crush, the one for the chocolate box freezes the app. The graphics in the background are still moving but there is no way to dismiss the candy box promo/popup/notification (whatever you want to call it). Occasionally I can log in, and play a level or two. But eventually the candy box thing pops up and the app is not functional. I have tried exiting the app and restarting, updating the app, offloading and reloading, and restarting my phone. For at least four days now — the same issue occurs only with the candy box pop up nonsense.

Is this a known bug? I thought the update I installed today would fix it but, alas, no.
