That is the nature of the event @ancientdevil and in fact of any event that has a jackpot feature, such as any lottery I can think of?
However, I can also inform you that the Candy Royale event is not real in the way it would appear. Those other 99 players do not get anything because those are just recordings of players who previously played those levels! It is like the episode race just you against the game and the competition is an illusion. The amount you could win, if you do succeed to pass all those levels on your first try, is preset by King at the very beginning of the first level you play!
