The only reason would be his game has the test feature and yours doesn't! Ads videos are still under testing and hence, not all players receive it.
One day, these videos might be removed from your boyfriend's game and move to your game - which is common with the testing features!
Please don't be despair! Make sure that you keep your game App is regularly updated; keep at least 2 GB free space on your device memory and stay active in the game. After that, it's all just a matter of time for you to receive those Ads.
