Fish on level 3778 Candy Crush Saga

Today I matched a fish with a striped candy while using the fish booster. It did not remove 3 lines like it usually does, but it only removed 3 squares. On another turn, I matched a fish with an exploding candy. The three fish came out and removed only 3 squares but did not explode the areas of the board.
Am I imagining that the fish would take on the characteristics of the special candy? I was certain it did so I don't know if there is a glitch on the android app or not.
