Today I've been busy trying to win as much episode races as I could in one play session and doing so I got myself a very clear view of the way this game works, especially to the benefit of the developers. In short: the King style.
Starting my session I didn't have boosters and lives anymore and only 1 goldbar. That wouldn't work, so I bought stuff. In total I spent €20,96 (appr. 23,34 USD) to win 82 levels in 5 (and a half) episode race (I stranded at level 1846). It was the Volcano series were you have to free a CC character out of pink chewing gum at the end of the race. Yeti first, than the Nutcracker, Mr. Toffee and last but not least Pink Troll as the evil-doer. I came as far as freeing Yeti for the second time and then my session was over.
I did have fun winning, I want to be honest, but that joy diminished every time I was confronted by a typical King trick to keep you spending your money. First trick was to not give me all of the boosters I bought. King still owes me some Hands and Hammers I think. I saw them as part of the little drawings in the store, but they didn't show up under my following level. That is, some did and some didn't. King style! (And no, not a question of failing connection.) Second trick was keeping behind my honestly earned Colorbomb in one of the levels I had to play. It just didn't show up as to prevent me from winning that level too easily. King style!. Tricks 3, 4 and 5 are well known I suspect by most CC players. 3. deliberately keep one jelly to collect. 4. making dragons or special candies drop slower (if not at all) towards the end of a level. 5. making a level impossible to win at the first try, I mean really impossible, so that you have to use an expensive booster or spend 10 goldbars for Extra Moves.King style!
All of these tricks ultimately made me stop after 82 levels. Because going on trying to win Level 1846 would have meant paying with my bankaccount again for new goldbars (the ones I had won to that point were spent) and I wasn't intending a replenishment. So, quitting time.
I've found out that it is indeed possible to win a number of episode races in a row. But.. was the fun I had in balance with the costs? It didn't really feel that way to be honest again. Remarkable, because usually I like gaming, but apparently not so much in King style.
Of course, this is only my meaning, my personal CC gameplay experience. Others may be much better in it than I am, for instance, and consider CC to be a fantastic game no matter how it is made. And that's all perfectly fine.
