Disclaimer: I can’t prove all I’m describing below. It’s just what I think King has made up over time to make us spend as much money as possible playing CC.
1. Deliberately make one candy/cookie/jelly etc. left to be crushed at the end of a level.
2. Deliberately stall crucial gamepieces appearing (falling down) in the playing field (dragons, candies of a special color etc.) .
3. Making special candies, especially colorbombs, blow up in thin air before activated by the player (I don’t mean cascades)
4. Make boosters and new lives (5 for free per level) TIMED and solid once exceptional (as a reward) or to be purchased. (a very shrewd change of how it was in the beginning, when you could easily save boosters etc. for later use)
5. Give less and less moves to beat a level.
6. Making more and more levels simply unbeatable the first time, pushing players to obtain Extra Moves by spending their goldbars or buying new ones. (another despicable trick i.m.o.)
7. And last but not least excluding succesdful longtime players from major events to make more money (as shorter time and less experienced CC players are likely to pay more)
I really liked CC in the beginning. But since I seriously restarted playing it in 2020 less and less so. Not the game itself, it still looks fun to play and still is in some ways, but nowadays we players are too much confronted by in-game methods to make us spend money. And that’s no fun at all.
