How to play legendary levels

The game has recently been reduced to such a simple game mechanism that I have found that just by following a few simple rules it is possible to get the best out of any board including legendary levels.

The opening board will give you some idea of whether you will pass or fail. To improve your chances of a pass on your first attempt play starting colour bomb and wrap/stripe. You will also have at least one win streak booster on your first attempt. So the level will always give you your best chance of passing on your first attempt.

Subsequent attempts will be harder. Do NOT waste starting boosters on subsequent attempts. If you fail on your first attempt often the only way to pass legendary levels is to wait until the game gives you enough extra moves for 10 gold bars, and then use 10 gold to pass.

Whether a legendary level can be passed using any strategy is written into the design of the starting board. Do not waste boosters on an impossible to pass board! Nearly all legendary opening boards are "fail" boards. Some will be "lucky" boards. It's important to spot a lucky board and take full advantage of it, but not waste boosters on a lost cause.

If you have a "fail" board then I have found that whatever strategy I use I fail.

If I have a "lucky" board then I find that the following strategy will help me pass.

  • Make the first move the game suggests or strike a double colour bomb combo
  • Make any move you see that will create a wrapped or striped candy or a colour bomb
  • Make any wrap/stripe combo or colour bomb/stripe or colour bomb/wrap combo you see and check the board for chances to create combos of special candies
  • If there is no chance of the above make the move that best opens the board and removes blockers
  • If there is no good move make the move the game suggests

When you have about 5-7 moves left to play check the board carefully to assess if there is a chance you may pass. At this point the game may stop helping you but there may still be a way to pass either by using a single booster or by making the correct moves. So near the end of a level, if the game has allowed you to get close, it is important to stop and think what needs to be done, and then to make the right moves. This will depend on the level.

As an example I have a step by step run down of legendary level 345.

This is my first attempt, so I have win streak boosters and played starting boosters. As the colour bomb and stripe are lined up for a combo I am hopeful this is a "lucky" board and that I will pass using the strategy outlined above. The game suggests I play the combo, which is obviously the best opening move.

The result is good as a cascade has cleared a lot of blockers already. There is no chance to make a special candy, so I play the orange match near the blockers.

The next few moves I play the obvious moves that will hit into the blockers from above, using the striped candies that drop from the dispensers.

Now the game creates a colour bomb for me.

At this point it's important to try to make a combo with it. There is an orange match just above that colour bomb and below the dispenser, so I know a striped candy will drop and create the chance of stripe/colour bomb combo.

By this point it is obvious I have luck, so I definitely stripe the combo and watch out for further opportunities.

Basically in this middle part of the level I carry out the moves the game suggests to me, which are also the obviously best moves to hit into the blockers. Below (14) nothing obvious shows up, so I do whatever the game suggests.

Which creates a combo. I also get the chance to make my own striped candy with the four purples. I do this first. Rule number one: Never miss any chance to create a special candy!

Now I am down to just 8 moves and I stop just following the advised moves or making special candies. Now I try to see how best to clear the remaining blockers. There are a lot of orange and red candies int he middle bottom, so I make the red match at the bottom of the middle column as I hope it will also create a cascade with the orange candies.

And it does bring down orange candies to give the opportunity to make a wrapped candy with orange. This will sit underneath the green striped candy for a combo: Great!

In fact it did not do that, but instead I got a cascade that automatically cleared a lot of the remaining blockers. This is the point at which it becomes apparent that I will now pass, practically whatever I do. Unless I make a nonsense move the game will let me pass at the this point.

I didn't need those two colour bombs, thank you very much! But the game drops them for me anyway. It wants me to pass, because I played the "right" moves earlier on, which triggered the "pass" algorithm.

Guys, it's not about skill. It's not about luck in the true sense of the word, as "luck" is written into the game by design. It is all about spotting a lucky board and then making the moves the game wants us to make.

    • Don't waste boosters and don't waste gold bars. Use a maximum of 10 gold per level.
    • Make sure you make enough friends for more lives, to allow you to replay levels until you get lucky
