Yes, the limit is five lives, but whenever we lose a life another gets added every 30 minutes, so I find that is not so bad. Occasionally the daily treat machine or other events will give us indefinite lives for half an hour as well.
To be able to replay a tricky level more often we can use lives from friends. These are found in your envelope at the top left of the game. Try to invite as many friends as possible to your game, send and request lives from them by clicking on your player icon and then on "friends" . If we have many friends in the game we may use another 20 lives per day from them.
