Why is Candy Crush not connecting to the App Store?

While playing my game, I ran out of moves. I had enough coins to pay for the additional moves but it wouldn’t connect to my App Store in Candy Crush. I ended up losing my winning streak and the golden challenge. I literally just needed to pass the level I was on and could have gotten the challenge coins. Ugh. So infuriating.
