The best way is to make sure you invite as many friends to your game as you see. Many won't accept your invite, but some always so. In all the leaderboard competitions (e.g. Winter Cup or Gold Club) you can click on each of the other players and check their player cards. Those who do send lives to others click on the friends option and see if they will become your friends. Once you have some friends make sure you click each individually in your friends list every day and both send and request a life from them! That way I do get lives in abundance and can use 20 each day. 20 per day is the cap imposed by King.
