The last few weeks I have been doing the weekly race against five people who haven't even reached level 100 yet, I'm level 16980, how can I win when my games are so much harder! This is not fair and deflating.

A lot of players don't like the new way the King are running the weekly race event, but we are all in the same boat as you. Check out this thread:
The other players in our games are not real. Like the episode race or Candy Royale, it's an event fixed by King to make us spend more money, using recordings or players from a kind of stock list. It is manufactured like all of Candy Crush. The number of levels we have to play per week to get on the podium is now pre determined by these fakes.
The whole of Candy Crush is run in this manner and apart from the live leaderboard competitions every event is an illusion: The time we are allowed to win an episode race is pre determined by the fake players that King pick for our races and the amount of gold that Candy Royale will pay out is pre determined by King the moment we play the first level depending on which of their test groups we are in. Jelly streak works the same way too. The game is what it is. We need to either make the most of what events we are given or ignore them. If it's not fun the way it is then it's time to delete the app and find a better game.
