You might want to look at the top of page 2. I actually have a general rundown of the mechanic.
Too many people never understood the fish mechanic. The only fish only target jelly. If there was no jelly left on the board the fish were random and usually pretty useless.
The new fish, while only one, will target everything including candies under dragons and stuff in corners and so on.
The downside is that on levels where many fish are needed, the new fish are awful and I have said as much.
Honestly I would go back and play some beaten levels were you previously had no fish or there is no/little jelly. You will see the difference.
Does not mean you will like the mechanic but it will help you see some of the benefits not just the cons.

Ya a few people have mentioned that they do not seem to be working correctly in regards to what they are eating. I wonder if King has different versions and some people got a different test versions, or more likely, a broken older version.
Because if they are not being "smart" last turn excluded, they are of no value.

Just of note with your 300 and new game. Ya that started about 1 1/2 or so years ago, so before Microsoft, not that it has really improved since they took over, but ya what anyone played in even into mid 23 is not remotely playing the same game we have now especially at low levels.
For some baffling reason they decided the game needed a near comical difficulty spike at 200. Also, you really do not escape it until 900 or so.

I prefer the old fish, I don't like where it only targets one spot instead of the old three.. bring the old fish back…

To be completely honest, this update has basically rendered the fish useless and mostly just in the way. It’s kind of like if the colour bomb was to only take 3 candies away, so personally I would prefer it if we got the old fish back!

It is not a new feature, just a modified one. It has actually downgraded the value of the fish as a booster.

I have a bank of Fish boosters which have now been devalued without my permission.
Just another way to rip off the player !!
