What triggers the butterflies in candy crush?

I got mine when I playing new level. My level not yet 1000. Those events is depend on which test group you are at.
The butterflies appear at times that are decided by the AI that runs the programme. This is likely to be different for different "test" groups of players as is the case in all events and features of Candy Crush. I do not know of any specific triggers and there is no way that players have any means to control or predict if butterflies will show up in any specific level. Generally these critters or butterflies will be added to a level the AI wants players to pay to pass on that attempt. You will only be collecting the butterfly for your collection if you pass the level.
