The weekly contest is very unfair. Competitors should be grouped based on levels achieved. This week I'm playing against 3 players on level 400 or less, I'm on level 19,000+. I haven't a chance.

This event is pretty much the same for every one of us: We are all given brand new players to compete against. We are all given players based on our own previous recent playing style and performance. We are all given some players easy to beat and one almost impossible to beat. We are all able to get onto the podium if we play more levels than we did in previous weeks. It's fixed by King, none of it is real, as Alienscar pointed out. The other players don't see us in their games. And yes, there are players at all level ranges who zoom through the levels and there are players at all level ranges who get stuck and give up. Essentially all levels of Candy Crush are the same except that at the higher levels we need to spend more boosters and/or gold to progress. The game assumes that players have accumulated more gold and boosters by the time they reach level 19,000. Some of us have thousands of gold bars, and many players pass all 60 of the new releases within hours of them being released.

It is difficult to respond to your complaint @Johnmd as the Weekly Contest, or any contest for that matter can't be considered 'fair'.
Some people pay for booster packages and some people might play for over four hours a day. Some people even use loopholes in the game to provide themselves with unlimited numbers of boosters. In that climate it doesn't matter what level you are at you are never competing on a level footing.
Also please bear in mind that the Weekly Contest isn't real. That is, the people that you see in the contest ahead of you don't see you and they aren't necessarily even in the same positions in the Contest as shown in your game.
The Contest is a trick to persuade those of a certain nature to spend money to 'win'
