Alien Invasion levels: how should I play these?

I am really struggling with the latest version of the Alien Invasion levels, once I got to the gold boxes. These patches to fix the glitch seem to have made these level unpredictable and far too hard (for some players).

Here is one such level I played on two devices this morning:

I decided to play all three starting boosters and had the super charger for both these accounts. I don't know if the lucky candy would make any difference, but I played it just in case.

Does anyone recognise this level? Is it revamped candy cake level maybe?

Yeah, thanks that's helpful. They just don't want us to have fun. In fact I've stopped playing for now. This event is ridiculous. If I can't pass using a party popper with three moves left then I'm not interested. I'll wait for the original end of episode levels.

this level sucks!! I’ve been on it for 3-4 days, out of boosters and coins. I refuse to pay for anymore. Sorry this post isn’t helpful, just sharing frustration.

I'm only playing my new test games for that reason. I'm really not going to spend 10 gold for each one of these levels in the two accounts that matter to me. I think I've only managed to pass a couple of these levels without extra moves, and even then I might also need some boosters to avoid paying twice.

I found this screenshot from last year.

This level was completely reworked. More layers of blockers, more aliens to collect, portals where the exits used to be, so we now have to bash through all those blockers at the bottom. Plus, this level (along with many others) now has an additional order of blockers that prevents the use of coconut wheels. The current version of the event is much harder than the last year's, and is basically a ten-gold tax for passing an episode. Two more weeks to go 😕

I continue to make the best possible moves. The same "skill" level is used, because well, it's the same person using the same methods here as in the first post.

At this stage it's not really too different from the first game, but from here on there just is no luck at all, no chances to make good moves.

I am really stuck!

Now this is when it gets ugly: Normally if we played a party popper here or paid for extra moves we would get lucky. But this is not happening in the "unlucky" versions of these boards. I did indeed pay for 5 moves, but I still didn't get any luck.

I get down to just the last move and again…..nothing! At this stage I tried to use boosters to hope for some help. With the frosting below one of the aliens still caged up I could see that even a UFO would not be enough. So I opted for a hand switch to bring the alien to the other column along with the others, and then a stripe brush to make the wrap into a combo, so my last move now looked like this:

Is there really no way this could lead to a pass now? Drop me a fish maybe to finish this off? Or drop the right colour to make that last match underneath the left most alien?

No!

So to eventually pass this on my first attempt I had to pay a total of 16 gold bars, a stripe brush and a hand switch. Was it worth it?

The lesson I can share is this: If the game is not helping you to pass these levels then no amount of clever play, boosters or anything will help. The best option HAS to be to let go of your win streak and replay the level until the game gives you the required number of extra moves for 10 gold bars.

Here is the plot twist: My two identical games are no longer identical when it comes to level difficulty. All of the last four levels of this episode were different in how easy my first board was and what I had to do to pass on my first attempt.

This one is markedly different. I played the colour bomb plus striped combo on both accounts, and then carried on making the best available moves I could see.

Here is how the iPad fared:

Nothing much at this point, but I get some chances later.

It's slow to take off, but I get two or three colour bombs dropping to help, and I come to this:

and this:

And eventually this, which led to a pass with my final move:

Pure skill you might think? Hm, yes, if you get an old fashioned lucky board these levels seem indeed possible to pass. However, check what happened to my iPhone game in the next post.
