That is interesting! I got mine back yesterday after I'd lost my episode race (forgot I hadn't finished the episode, again, but no surprise whilst I am playing five accounts at the same time). The same happened last time I lost a race.
I lost my Delicious Dash as soon as I reached a Champions Race win streak of 100.
Thanks for the tips. I have noticed distinct differences between the old and new levels too, but didn't know about the starting boosters issue. I had incidentally noted though that some of these levels get easier if playing with no boosters, as the old algorithms then seem to kick in. Personally I hate the new AI ones for the very reason you state: They are so predictable and pre determined in their outcome. The old levels still sometimes work with my old strategy. One strategy I use when I see an old human written board is to NOT match four to create jelly fish as I think this may interfere with the old lucky board algorithm. So for those levels I avoid making match 4 square moves at all cost. Sometimes it seems to work in my favour.
I'll have to run some tests on that Meltdown level when I get that one. Most of these should be possible to pass with one UFO, the question is when to best play it. This one looks like it needs a double super charger plus a UFO. I wonder how many extra sets of moves it will extract from anyone intent on not losing their win streak.
Looking forward to your next run in the spring @Insertnicknamehere
All the "boss levels" have varying versions and this maxed out at 122 all the previous times and going as low as around ~90ish. When I saw 165… I actually did a bit of a double take.
When did you lose yours? Mine died late Sunday for some reason. Wonder if the test groups got shuffled. Might explain why I all of a sudden saw this comically idiotic version of the "boss level" Monday.
I really am hoping on the 2nd, since this season runs officially to the 1st according to the post about it, it is a non "event season" for the first month. ie unlike like the current "Melting Season as part of the larger "Winter Season".
Mainly laying my hopes on the fact that "All Stars" season is closing in and it likely cutting into March, they might just be lazy enough to not have anything special ie last year:
P.S. I am the same person as TheFabulousPyroight/PyroSpring so this is all in context of that game. Usually make a new account with a new play through but like 9/10 the second I try to verify my email, broken account haha.
P.P.S
Just noticed if you want to have links to other posts not have a stupid gap between them you have to add them in reverse order. Ie I did the last link first and added the one that would be before it above it and it did not create the gap.
Seeing someone else's progress updates is interesting. I unfortunately stopped receiving the Delicious Dash challenge, and I don't have any reason to believe that it's coming back to my game.
Also, wow. The event level you received for level 1,340 looks like a blocker spam disaster zone. I'm not looking forward to seeing it in the coming episodes.
Taking off until Spring. I am guessing it will be on March 2, since the 1st is the end of the current season and Spring should start on the Monday. Kinda hoping it is just pins and no event for the first season aka no "boss levels" just normal end of episode ones.
@QueenB Spring March 2nd?
AI levels
Are not exactly exciting but they are FAR better balanced for Hard, Super Hard, Nightmarish and Legendary. You can actually beat those with a streak and 2 boosters a decent amount of the time first try if you are playing smart.
Old Levels
Do not waste pre level boosters on them past say 300. the 30 min color bomb and striped/wrapped do nothing for them. All that will happen is you will feel like you are getting closer to wining.
Also one last "hilarious" image
165… riiiiight.
Thanks for the warning @TheFabulousPyrolight ! I managed to pass level 813 on my first attempt by using a striped brush. That may in fact be the mechanics the game demands for a first move: Use the required booster wisely. This one seems to be calling out for this, with all the purples on the board and the one colour bomb already present on the board to tempt us. I passed easily using this combo:
I replayed the level a second time to test out what would happen if I don't play the paint brush: I was left exactly one jelly short. There was no chance to use a lollipop as this was on move 0 and followed an unpredictable colour bomb + wrap cascade on my last move. A major cascade leaving you exactly one jelly short, that is match fixing at its best. Well done, A! (I'm no longer calling it "AI" as I think the "I" is sadly missing)
Nope no conveyors. Just the basic mechanics and blockers. Honestly since the levels were so gutted in the past don't really notice the absence of the conveyors.
Ya I did notice speed vary a little still after 1000, likely AI thinking about what to do next, but not as bad as the section mentioned.
@QueenB
We do need to address the complete change in mechanics. Ie make a move the AI likes it will random spawn in special candies, make a move it does not like and it will randomly blow them up.
While the game always did this to a degree, it seems to be a major mechanic now. Example, three turns left and you make a move that the AI likes and clear some stuff. The next turn you would have a blocker or two that you could not take out normally but since you "ticked the belly" of the algorithm, the game spawns in the exact special candies you would need.
While that works well enough, it is not stated anywhere that
I haven't worked my way up to level 800 yet on this latest run. Have you seen any conveyor belts? That's what I mean by boring. The conveyor belts make levels interesting for me and they were absent from these levels last time I played. Also very few cake bombs and magic mixers, which also add interest. I can't wait to see if my levels play like yours. I'll try them out in the knockouts and finals.
Also on speed: I have often noted that speed varies. If you are following the intended algorithms sometimes the candies drop and explode very rapidly, other times they seem much slower. I did a test once on level 1000: Initially it played out in 1 minute 34 seconds roughly. But soon after it changed to about 1 minute 50 seconds, and that is also what I found last week. I am not sure what affects speed, but it doesn't seem to be the speed button.
The rest of the week:
Other things of note:
P.S.
@christinewupp I don't know what you were saying about boring levels from 800 - 1500. I was almost overwhelmed when I saw a mallow level! Thankfully it was only one and the game went back to the reasonable number of mechanics. It was getting confusing :P
I have reached JELLY JARS!
Also
Level 500+ Episode events are just a 10 gold auto withdrawal from your stash. Hilarious how straight up insane they became.
And
So, on the 9 gold Delicious Dash and the non rated level just goes utterly hardcore until I have objectively not enough that to pass the remaining levels, 5 levels 5 minutes, even spamming stuff like Party Poppers. The next try, went lucky level…
Lastly
What worries me is what we will find when we get to levels 800-1500: Last time I played those they were so boring it was just painful. The AI rewrote them all, took out all the conveyor belts and removed everything else that might add some variety. Usually I quit when I reach there because I just can't stand it.
I cannot believe I missed adding a clever quip here, Ahem: "Rewritten by machine on new technology". Hahahahahahahaha, got my A material today!
Anyway just hit 800 so will have to see. Considering 800 to 1500 has had anything interesting gone for probably 2 years now on the windows version, can't be much worse. Seeing the same level 3 times in that stretch was not uncommon.
I agree with all that you say @TheFabulousPyrolight . That is exactly my own experience on the new games I started in the past month. @QueenB I second this feedback.
I am currently approaching level 700 in my own game. There are lots of different elements including conveyor belts in all these early levels, which makes them interesting and fun to play. They include many older levels still written by proper level designers. Let's hope they will be preserved in their current form.
So some thoughts Feedback @QueenB
Fish
BTW did someone beat the folks over at Microsoft that support the windows version? I cannot fathom why the game is not in full on ahole mode atm. Very odd feeling.
Sorry but I really don't know about the Champions Race. I'm not sure what you mean by trigger. I always get the first race when I reach level 51 and then after three episodes automatically the Champions Race. Time of day does not seem to come into it. If you mean that we fail if we don't complete the race by 6pm or within 24 hours, I never tested that out or noticed. I go for the delicious dash anyway. That always goes from 5 to 7 to 9 gold and then back to 5 in all my games at all level ranges.
I have also noted that the first few special event end of episode levels are easier for newbies than for other players. I have noted this with the last few such events.
It's always great to hear from you! I have had an overall feeling that this Monday level difficulty has been reduced overall across the board, especially for anyone playing starting boosters. I guess that doesn't include levels 66-200 then. Sometimes I wonder if they have just forgotten that these levels don't include win streak boosters any more and keep revising them as if every player had boosters on their opening boards.
Ya I did notice the difficulty was down somewhat. Still a grind since it is trivial, trivial, brick wall, trivial… I think they are playing with the difficulties in the range again as I had two nightmarish go, was not playing starting boosters, in the last episode I did after only a few tries while a unrated took more tries.
Unrated levels are too easy all the way up to and beyond level 500 at least: I pass these simply by following the hints, which now follow a set order of priority (1. two specials combo, 2. special + normal candy, 3. create special, 4. lowest possible match). Sometime we have to "find" the one obvious last winning move ourselves, just so that we feel we achieved something.
Ya running not using hints and unrated are for the most part… just do stuff, you will win.
Hey @TheFabulousPyrolight 😃
So good to see you back and I have to say, this little adventure log was a fun read.
First of all, respect for that run 💪 And as you can see from Christina’s comment, you’re definitely not the only one feeling this way.
Really appreciate you sharing this and as always noting down the feedback that will be shared with the team and I’m looking forward to the next chapter whenever you feel like posting it 😉
Good luck and nice to see you back, @TheFabulousPyrolight.
