If you like Candy Crush, consider quitting. If you love Candy Crush, consider fighting back against the powers that be.
For many of us, this game is more than something to pass the time. It’s a way to zone out, decompress, and relieve stress at the end of the day. But lately, the constant changes to the terms of play are making the game more frustrating than fun.
Previously, after losing a level several times, players were given the option to pay and use gold bars to continue playing. We could decide whether purchasing a small coin package—sometimes just $1.99—was worth one more chance. Now, that choice has been replaced by a “spin to win extra moves” feature, which somehow seems to repeatedly offer only 10 extra moves. If we decline that offer and go to the shop, the $1.99 option is gone, and the least expensive purchase is now $3.99.
At this point, it’s beginning to feel less like a game and more like an electronic slot machine whose rules are continually being changed to push players into spending more money.
If players simply accept every change and keep paying, King has no reason to reconsider. If you enjoy this game and want it to remain enjoyable, please speak up!
We love the game. That doesn’t mean we have to accept every increasingly aggressive attempt to monetize it.
