Caramel Cup reward structure is troubling

Dear King,

I'm not exactly a fan of this new Caramel Cup thing, and a whole lot of other players aren't either.

Typically, the weekend adds an elite challenge to the Champions Race. At the most recent gold bar rewards, you get 32 GB per race before any ads or Delicious Dash bonus. Over three elite Champions Races, that's a total of 96 GB at a minimum.

A couple weeks ago, King introduced two versions of the Caramel Cup. Get first place in three consecutive Champions Races to get an extra prize! Sounds amazing! Until you realize that both versions are different degrees of evil in different ways.

The safe Caramel Cup removes the elite challenge bonuses from the races, but getting three wins in a row gives 10 gold bars. Instead of getting 96 GB (32 + 32 + 32) from the three races, you now only get 91 GB (27 + 27 + 27 + 10). It's only slightly evil because it ends up shortchanging you a few gold bars. If you do miss out on those bonus gold bars, ehh… it's not great, but it could be a whole lot worse. Speaking of…

The dangerous Caramel Cup completely removes gold bars from the races (but you still get ads), but getting three wins in a row gives 100 gold bars. You get 4 additional gold bars (0 + 0 + 0 + 100 = 100 instead of 32 + 32 + 32 = 96), but ohhhhhhhhhh boyyyyyyy King is holding your gold bars hostage! The only way out of this hostage situation is to pay the ransom (an unfortunate amount of time AND winning all three races) within 72 hours, or King is throwing the gold bars straight into the incinerator. If you fail, you have no choice but to watch in horror as your dearly beloved gold bars are taken away from you. Any gold bars spent trying to win the races will get WASTED if you lose at any point in the three (count them, three) whole races! If you dare decide to take a break, you had better PRAY REAL HARD that life doesn't get in the way and prevent you from rescuing those 100 GB. Welcome to your new nightmare, fool. Hope you enjoy high-stakes gambling with the lifeblood of your progress!

It seems that a bunch of other players and I have been forcibly switched to the dangerous Caramel Cup.

It's not any fun if my gold bar totals fluctuate like the daily weather here, even if I do come out on top (as I always do) eventually. Seeing my gold bar total after each episode go a little bit down followed by a little bit down followed by a huge surge up is troubling. It's far more troubling for players who are stuck with a very low gold bar count because now they're forced to be stuck for more episodes during the weekends.

What also doesn't help is that the reward structure of Caramel Cup is needlessly complex and poorly explained. That's why we're having a whole bunch of players suddenly complaining about not receiving gold bars from Champions Races because the system is designed in a confusing way despite functioning as intended. People don't like this gold bar hostage situation game.

Even if King did an absolutely perfect job explaining Caramel Cup, it's still going to confuse a whole lot of players and force them to live in extended gold bar poverty.

Please, King. I don't think it's a good idea to force this kind of twisted gambling onto players. It's confusing and cruel! The game is far better off reverting to the previous Champions Race elite challenges. Under the previous system, I can always sleep peacefully knowing that I'm not risking gold bars between episodes, and I'm sure the same can be said for other players.

I’ll play the week's second episode tomorrow evening. If that timer that appeared today is for real, I want to make sure I can finish the Caramel Cup with the two remaining episodes—I don't have any others, since this is the game at the end of the map. To be honest, I didn't expect the Caramel Cup to appear in this game. Last week, I played the four episodes starting Thursday—one a day—and didn't get the Caramel Cup.

Too bad if it has changed, but we don't know that yet. These messages don't mean anything: you only actually enter the cup IF you start the race AFTER the cup has started. My usual routine is this: on Thursday, I complete the first episode and get the entry pass. On Friday, the icon turns purple with an exclamation mark, so I wait. On Saturday, the icon is blue again; I start playing the second episode of the week, but I don't get the Caramel Cup. The very first time, I waited out the entire weekend and skipped the Caramel Cup as well.

I will try this on my second account this week to see if it has changed. On my main I'm at the end of the map already - the most reliable method 🙂

It seems things have changed. Today I played the first episode race of the week. After playing the first level, I received a message stating that the Caramel Cup starts in 18 hours and 21 minutes... and I am in the group competing for 100 gold bars after three episode race.

I think you make a sound, and comprehensive case for this event to be reconsidered.

I could see a benefit if the Caramel Cup offered a lot more gold bars than what is awarded for three traditional 'Episode' wins, but for the reward to be broadly the same at circa 100 gold bars makes no sense.

It offers little incentive - but at a much higher risk of failure due to the 'all or nothing' nature of requiring three episodes to all be completed in a relatively small window of time. Your phrase "holding your gold bars hostage" captures the issue well - especially for those who operate on a low number of them and need to use them strategically to get through episode to episode.

You make several other valid points.

Not necessarily linked directly, but maybe, maybe, the technical issues experienced today with the loss of several basic elements of the game are a result of the developers introducing too many new features to the game in too short a period of time. Hence, on a mostly stable and reliable platform, unforeseen errors are starting to occur.

Maybe talking nonsense - @QueenB will know better if this is a legitimate conclusion to reach.

When I read the comments, I get the impression that there's an event with different outcomes and rewards. Could this be a new test format from King?

That one wants to test several things like that?

But actually, King should know what the players want. Just dismissing them with a few boosters isn't what the players want.

Question: Why do they cause unrest and make the players stop playing? What's the purpose of all this?

It would be nice if we could get a stateman for this!!!

I got the dangerous version one. I'm not a fan of it. If this doesn't change back and continue like this. I probably will consider to stop playing this game although there are a few features in this game that I love very much.

I only had simple boosters in the two episodes. What I'm seeing here must be something more advanced.

I'm in the third episode and I'm stuck. There are 3 players on one level and it's been like this for a while. That says it all. I only have 8 GB. This is an event just for money players.

One way to bypass the Caramel Cup I found is simply not to play on Fridays. If I wait out Friday, on Saturday the flag color changes to normal blue, and I get the usual Elite Challenge race.

I think there are many versions of this Caramel Cup except the two of them you mentioned.

Those boosters rewards in the big chest are better than the 15 extra gold bars come from elite versions 😁

I completely agree with Christine. I only realized at the end of the race that there are only boosters and 2 x 3 GB. What nonsense. When you're putting so much effort into it. It would be nice if those who don't want an event could disable it. The game is increasingly becoming a source of stress rather than fun and balance. It should be changed.

Many people don't have time to play and only play a few levels occasionally. Gaming shouldn't be the top priority in life.

Even though King is a company that aims to make money, this company belongs to the entertainment category. We shouldn't forget that.

Hello, I've read a part of it, but not all of it. I don't have to read it all. I'm also playing the Cup and have already won 2 episodes. I'm disappointed about that and had expected more from it. I thought that you would get boosters from the Caramel Cup in addition to the normal episode races with the GB. I only got the boosters and 2 x 3 GB. Since I don't have 10 GB, it's hard for me to progress further.

Who on earth came up with the idea that we don't have any GBs left to spend on the new episode?

I'll see what happens when I win for the third time.

For one thing, the GBs from the episode races have greatly decreased. They used to be 30 - 35 and 40. Now they're 25 or 27.

It's always supposed to sound good when something new comes along, but when you play it, you realize it's the opposite.

I really find that a shame.

I agree wholeheatedly with this assessment.

I have now played the Caramel Cup on two accounts.

This event is essentially a repackaging of the Episode Race, probably with the aim to ensure that players will play at least one episode per day. It appears to be part of the drive to make all players play more and more, like most of the other events we see in the game now. By having this run alongside the episode race it is far too confusing. I didn't understand what it was all about until I had played it through. Get ready for all the questions to Support @QueenB. There will be a lot of players who will be wondering why their episode races have changed colour and no longer award them gold bars at the end. The claim/promise that our episode race win streaks are not affected if we lose one of these races is the most confusing part of it, and I'm not sure I would trust it.

One way to get out of this event would be to deliberately fail and not play any levels until the timer runs down. In fact deliberately failing an episode race has the benefit of the app then offering Delicious Dash for the next races. I was also offered 10 gold bars at the end of a failed episode for watching two ads. So I would recommend players who don't want to participate or who think they won't play three episodes in the time frame to slow down even more to bypass the Caramel Cup.
