Where are my friends?

When you start a new game on candy crush saga - to the left is a pink tall rectangle area which will have your friends. At the bottom of the top pink area we have a oval blue me to the right of that an oval pink number one below that will have my picture and my profile in a long oval area. I only have one listed but I know I have many other friends that are also playing

I’m trying to find my friends. I play on my iPad and iPhone. I never play thru fb and my game is not listed on my page. If I search for it, it wants me to “play now” . What do I do to find my friends? I’m on level 3817 I don’t want to lose everything!
