Boost problem

I have a boost that the game gave me.  It looks like a line clearer.  When I am in the game, I click to use it, I place it on my puzzle, and everything locks up around it.  I then have to remove it from the board to be able to continue playing.  I have no idea how to use this or is it a glitch?

    Nothing in the FAQ's explain this booster.   I can't make it work either.   It locks down the game when I try.
