The buff gets activated as soon as the notification pops up. They don't seem to learn not to enforce timed freebies on us.
Did you see the unlimited lives appear before hitting Claim? Any chance you opened the game earlier without pressing Play, thus activating the freebie nevertheless?
Are you experiencing issues with other features - not earning gold bars or something? In any case, you should report the matter to Support and ask for your lives.
Should you not get the assistance you expected, you can gimme a shout on Discord (Sun#0314) or Reddit (u/Sunnysboy) to exchange tips.

Unable to purchase
