Lost Extra Lives & the 20 life limit

I was playing & had 23 extra lives & couldn't use them because I reached the 20 life limit for the day. At midnight I went back to play & all but one life had disappeared! This isn't the first time it's happened either. Does anyone know why this happens & if I can stop it? I'm playing on my desktop thru the facebook site if that makes a difference. This 20 life a day limit is annoying.
