I don't have an answer for you as to why but I will tell you I have been seeing alot of people asking the same thing. Your not alone, it stinks!

I REALLY HOPE KING GOES BUST, BANKRUPTED DUE TO ALL THESE F... UP DECISIONS OF F..... UP THE GAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!! DO NOT BE DUMB AND STUPID BY PAYING FOR EXTRA LIVES TO PLAY. WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN IS: GLITCHES ON TOP OF GLITCHES. GAME GETS SMALLER, GAME SLOWS DOWN, THINGS YOU BOUGHT DISAPPEAR AND THE LIST GOES ON. BUNCH OF INCOMPETENT PROGRAMMERS WHO ALREADY MADE TONS OF MONEY AND CANT CARE LESS ABOUT THE USERS!!!! For now, the answer to Candy Crush game is: BOYCOTT!! BOYCOTT!! BOYCOTT THE GAME!!!

I'm having the same problem on Windows 10. It's impossible to play this way. The main screen is full size but the game itself is too small. Who thought this was a good idea??? Guess I won't be playing anymore until/unless it gets fixed.

I play on my iPad and now I see landscape mode is gone. I can’t stand it portrait mode. I don't even want to play now 😔

The Candy Crush Studio Team is running a test right now. That is the reason, you can play in Portrait mode only.
