Episode Race is as far as I know a permanent feature. If it vanished it is likely a bug of some sort. The next time you log in see if it is back, it might not appear until you start a new episode.
Someone a King might have gotten a little too crazy with the green beer for St Patrick's day.

Are you near to the end of the map @lgh? There is a long-running issue that effects players near to the end of the map (started at level 10,000) that results in the Episode Race disappearing, or to start and then disappear. King haven't fixed the issue yet, but a lot of people at/near the end of the map say that it does eventually reappear.

There is an ongoing issue that temporarily stops people's Events/Features (including the Episode Race) from appearing in their game.
All you have to do is play a level. Sometimes playing an old level is all you need to do, but sometimes you need to play a new level, or several levels. Also sometimes you need to play and win a new level.
Play a level and after completing the level return to your Events screen to see if your Episode Race has returned.
