I think what @xngnx is describing is a connection issue and not related to making purchases with real money. You don't have to have any credit card linked to your account to spend gold to purchase boosters or extra moves. But you do have to have a stable internet connection to connect to the app store.
This problem is ultimately a fault with King's servers, which has been going on for a long time and I have personally read hundreds of complaints about this issue over in Support. I am sorry but apart from force closing the app, checking Wifi and then reopening the app, I do not know what to recommend. I never play Candy Crush while travelling because it won't work on mobile data for me, certainly won't connect on 3G at all.
