The profiles are not live @MollyS . I don't think they are quite up to date, perhaps they are even running 24 hours or more behind real time, so don't go by those while playing the competition. They give you some indication of how strong the opposition is, by the number of levels they played in the past seven days. If it's in the hundreds, then they are serious players you need to watch out for, if it's in the tens, then they probably can be beaten if you play enough episodes yourself.
Also some of the player cards are just nonsensical (e.g. more levels played in the past seven days than the level they are at), so there is a glitch there somewhere, but I think it's a King's end and not the players' fault. I suggest you ignore the player cards and go by the live scores, they are what matters.
I am sorry, but I really don't know why the tournament disappears on you nor how to get it back. It may be a connection error maybe? Candy Crush is very data hungry and needs a constant fast broadband or 4G connection to function properly. Apart from that all I can think of is if you change the settings on your phone, like alter the clock, then the event would disappear. But otherwise, try to close the app, reboot the phone, then open the app again and play a few older levels. That usually brings events back.
