My latest test on the best strategy to play Candy Crush

Finally I have come to a good place to run what might be the ultimate "controlled" experiment!

I just happen to have reached level 650 in both my latest unsaved "test only" games and as they so far have played exactly the same strategy they are almost equally rich in gold bars and in a great position to carry on playing without paying or growing insane. Let me introduce my two games in the next post.

    Meet the two players:

Both started the games the last week of October and played between one to two episodes per day. No tricks used, just playing entirely as intended by the game.

    Both playing iPads.

Both have enough friends now to play the extra 20 lives per day from friends. Both have Top That this week and the Warcraft Warm-up, and earn 40 gold bars per champions race. Both have just over 1500 gold bars to their accounts.

I think now is a perfect time to diverge the two games by choosing differing playing strategies.

ChristineCow will be the cautious player who will continue to play just one or two episodes per day using the following strategy:

    • buy no boosters and play only the boosters available from events
    • unmarked and "hard" levels: will not spend gold or boosters but replay if failed until a lucky board comes up
    • levels marked "super hard" "nightmarishly hard" or "legendary" will use starting boosters as available from events
    • "legendary" and "nightmarishly hard" levels will use in level boosters sparingly as available and/or pay 10 gold bars to pass level either on first attempt or after failing and replaying several times

Standing in latest events at the start of the episode:

ChristineCow had the super colour bomb but failed a level, so has lost it. She is currently on win streak 6 at the start of the next episode.

And here is ChristineTiffy, the brazen and bold one who will try to keep hold of her win streak and play more than two episodes, trying to get as high as possible in the events like Top That and the leaderboard competition starting at the weekend

    This will be her strategy:

    • buy boosters with gold, as required to use strategically and sensibly
    • use gold and boosters to pass every level to keep win streak and associated benefits
    • play starting boosters for all levels marked "super hard" , "nightmarishly hard" or "legendary" and play whatever boosters + gold required to pass on first attempt

ChristineTiffy is starting the new episode with the super colour bomb enabled, so I wonder if this will give her an advantage…?

I will keep posting my updates as and when.

    Hope to have fun!

    Level 1

Thanks for tour tests. My expérience with the super bomb is that it's made for spent a lot of golf bar. One time, i failed a level with the super bomb and juste after i looser it i success the level easily with no boosters and no gold bar. Now, i stopped to spent more than 10 gold bars to keep this bomb.

  • I can totally relate to all the strategies you identified with ChristineTiffy. These Gold Bars have been received from winning Episode Races and occasionally when I get lucky on the Top That Event. It's been raining here in NL since September so my daily episodes may be slightly increased 😊

So this little experiment was short lived!

ChristineTiffy was on a roll having a fun time passing levels easily and hanging onto her win streak and the super colour bomb. And then just now came the ……..

    Shock, Horror ……..OOPS!

    🤬😵😩🙀

Well, we'll have to take this as it is, quite possibly as intended by King: Powerful boosters taking up the place of other candies on the opening board quite possibly a glitch left deliberately in the game to stop players from getting too far too quickly. Lesson learned. Never trust the game.

Not the end to my test of course, we'll carry on playing. Alas, without the super colour bomb.

You are right. It's definitely not worth spending more than 10 gold bars ever to keep a win streak or the super colour bomb. Win streak boosters can be quite powerful, but if you lose your win streak you can earn it back soon enough. The super colour bomb is not as helpful as it seems. It helps us pass levels more quickly, but what is the point passing a level with 20 spare moves instead of 3?

It's raining here in England too, @Colleen Companion Welsh. I guess that's why I'm playing this much right now. The garden is ready for winter and there is nothing much else to do.

By the way, I'm quite glad King seem to have stopped pitting us against players on our friends lists in the Weekly Race this week. Last week I was racing against you….not a chance! 😅

  • Hopefully the sun appears before winter sets in but this is when I start baking to pass the time. My neighbors love being my official taste testers.

At least we don't need to shovel rain.

    Have a great day 🙂
