Several ads freeze the game at a black screen leaving no way to continue except by restarting the game. If you happen to be playing the Candy Royal, you lose any rewards you’ve earned. Super frustrating .

I am sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing with the Ad videos!
Yes! Losing all the bonuses and progress of the boosters we have earned because of a glitch - is very frustrating! Especially, if it becomes repetitive!! I am also experiencing same issue (with another King Saga game)!
The best way to deal with this issue is to report those Ads to the King Player Support team.
Just wondering… is it all the Ads that you have this issue with or some specific Ads? It would be better if you can write down the names of the Ads (brand or company names - if you can figure out) that are causing the Black screen. Then, take screenshots as well!
NOTE: You will have to send separate reports for each troublesome Ad(s).
