It's happened again: A thread in which I have reported a spammer has made the entire thread disappear. This happened a few days ago as well, same person I reported.
I tag a moderator or QueenB and the entire post is removed including the original question.
This time I'm rather upset because I spent half an hour trying to help a player understand frog level 9986. I'm sure that this would have been helpful but @WKvanderburgt will not be able to see my answer. What will that person now think when their post has disappeared into thin air? This is all that I can find now:
I'm not impressed with the new automated systems overseeing the community since Christmas. Something isn't right, folks!
This one seems a little bit different from last time. Last time all comments disappeared from all posts old and new. This time I just don't see your comment on the support thread. Just the original post. Hopefully QueenB will get the tag and fix it. Did the post originally have a comment before yours? Or am I looking at a different post on 9986?
Nevermind. I now just see your answer. I could have sworn I saw the original post and not your answer a minute ago.
The post was there @Peaches12 under the title Help/tips, the header did not mention the level. You might have seen it before it disappeared.
I have since posted my own question asking where it has gone. I'll be surprised to see who answers my post tomorrow.
You are right, this is not directly related to when all the replies disappeared. It is related to when I tag about a specific person who spams Support with useless one word answers such as "what" or "?" and this exactly what happened a few days ago as well. I really think the reporting system is broken. But of course they removed the flag button. There is no way I'll report anyone again if it makes the entire thread disappear.
Never mind, I'm done for today. Maybe you are right and the CM will come back tomorrow and fix it.
That's the one here: I 've found it by searching, eventually.
In my thread about my approach of using ad watching to make progress, I tried to edit a post I had already made (not the first post, but a later post in response to Christine), because I thought I had messed up a mention with the @ sign. When I did, a little error box came up giving an error I didn't understand and didn't save, unfortunately, and then the post I was trying to edit disappeared. I know it had been published prior to the edit because I actually called it up on another device. Like Christine's problem, it was very disappointing because it was a rather lengthy post with much information.
Christine, did you happen to see any little popup dialog boxes on the screen when you reported the spam? I wonder if there's some generic problem that deletes things if an error occurs on edits/reports/etc.
because I thought I had messed up a mention with the @ sign. When I did, a little error box came up giving an error I didn't understand and didn't save, unfortunately, and then the post I was trying to edit disappeared.
That has happened to me as well @Nobody1 and it is one a the few things that Vanilla still needs to fix along with the doubling up of the first letter you type in a comments box and not being able to edit a tag. It is an annoying error as your avatar disappears as well
In that instance all you have to do is navigate back to the home page of this forum and then find the post you want to edit in your profile.
Thanks for sharing this experience @Nobody1 . I have now had some explanation from my friend Alienscar in Support on where these threads fly off to. It appears there is an area in the community where some posts get buried and no one can see them but Alienscar always seems to find these lost posts and came good again on this occasion. It's taken me almost two years in this community to wisen up to that.
Now just WHAT makes a post disappear into this inaccessible place is a mystery. In my case, since it happened twice the instant I tagged a moderator about this specific suspected spammer, I was quite sure that my tag caused the post to disappear. It has now been three times that I tagged a moderator about this suspected spammer since the "flag" button was removed. After a short investigation the person returns, I assume because no specific community rules were broken, and at this rate might reach "legendary" status without ever having posted a single helpful post. The system by which players level up in this community is more important than you might realise: When you are fairly new like yourself the automated systems don't trust you as much and when I was that level my posts often disappeared or went for approval, especially if I was using a lot of tagging. I also could not link to any other posts in the forum then. When I reached the level which I think is now called Royalty, I could finally post links to YouTube videos and my posts stopped going for approval all the time, just because they were too long (that used to happen a lot). So keep on posting here and share you experiences and if you get lots of "helpful" or "love " reactions you'll move up to a higher level which will bring more trust from the community overseers. Unfortunately this also seems to be what some spammers are trying to do.
Now this is interesting @Nobody1 : I was just answering you about how now since I levelled up in the community my posts tend to not go for approval any more and my post did exactly that and went for approval!
@christinewupp The person that you tagged name starts with a C and end with 1990. If thats the same person I tagged them for their odd answers and my post disappeared. I guess the CM doesn't want to show when you tag someone for not helpful answers.
Yes @cookiemae I did notice that when your post disappeared along with theirs. I have no issue with my post disappearing, in fact I'd rather do this anonymously. But my issue here was that I then went on to answer the original post from the player with the problem in a helpful manner and with the thread then disappearing so did their call for help and my helpful run through the level in question. The CM should just remove the flagged post and the post that complained/tagged, not the entire thread. But since the system is automated: It is how it is and in future I will know when not to use it.
I think I found the issue and have moved this Discussion to the correct place. I'm sorry for the trouble and we'll make sure to look into why some posts ends up in a limbo 🤔
If it helps @QueenB here is another example of a post that was somehow posted in an area of the forum that the majority of people can't see.
