Hi there. Has anyone else noticed yellow candies dropping in a level when they shouldn't since the latest update?
I wonder if this is a new method of the game trying to stop us from passing a level by using a method that is not specifically written into the level design. I saw some yellow candies drop on my last move in a level I failed and I could swear that when I played it for the first time on my other device the yellow candies dropped with two or three moves left (but I failed to take a screenshot of this)
This has never happened before. In the past yellow candies only drop after we pass a level.
I'll take a screenshot next time I see this.
😮 I haven't installed the latest update yet. It's a major change if they have actually done it. That means there's no sense in spending ten gold on additional moves since you'll be dealing with a bad board that has an extra color. I'm torn between wanting to test it out and wanting to delay this update for as long as I can. Is this happening in the top of the map game?
I wouldn't worry too much about it @MannyFae . If it is something they've introduced deliberately it must be very rare, as apart from the one level 5682 I haven't been able to recreate it at all. On that particular level I saw it three times but struggle to recreate it now. That's why I was asking if anyone else has seen this. It's maybe just a glitch with this one level, which most players would never notice. Obviously if I see this again on any other level I'll take note.
Yup and I mentioned it in my Last Crusade thread. I think the game is now just treating win/loss with the same logic, once the last move is made, the win/lose flag is set and the final cascade starts.
While awkward it is basically meaningless as for as the result. It might just be a change to either simplify the logic/code or it might even improve performance since it does not need two different ending cascades.
Could also be a bug but feels intentional.
Anyway so far I have seen it six or so times. Never tried to replicate it though.
If that is so then, as MannyFae mentioned, it would discourage players from spending gold bars to play on, wouldn't it? I don't understand the logic in that at all. Who would pay 10 gold for extra moves on a board that is full of yellow candies? Having said that, when it did happen to me on that third occasion, the game dropped yellow candies followed by a triple (!) colour bomb. Yes, it was three colour bombs, dropping one after the other down the same column. I wish I could have taken as screenshot, but if it's your last move the banner that dropped down hid it all.
Good point.
I wonder if this is due to the color change then. Maybe the added some code to tell the game what colors to drop post loss, specifically vs just whatever was in the level, and it has the wrong values.
Incidental finding while carrying out my purple candy collection experiment:
I caught the game's dirty dealing right in the act. This one was really foul.
Level 254 on my first attempt with Poppy, playing with starting boosters only (in real life I guess this would equate to a player with no super colour bomb and not playing starting boosters but approaching this level with their win streaks intact)
I failed and chose to play on with 10 gold bars. I had several striped candies ready for cascades and assumed that I would easily pass this level with this one off payment.
Then after two moves into the extra five I'd paid for the yellow candies started to drop!
Looking at that board now I wonder if there were just enough fishes here for me to pass on this final move and I may have made an error of judgement when I decided to play a party popper to pass this. But can we be sure at this point or would the game have left me one jelly short to force a second payment at the inflated price of 16 gold? It would surely depend on King's good will, if more fishes drop and if the first fish goes for the second fish and if it goes for the purple striped candy then maybe they might have let me pass here with the double stripe combo. I am sorry I played that party popper, as this way I'll never know and in fact 16 gold would have been cheaper as well. 😬
@MannyFae @ForumPyrolight What do you think of this?
Actually I've taken another look and now I think it's a definite fail: the first fish would have to go for both double jellies plus the second fish, leaving far too many jellies for the second fish. In order to pass I would have had to have several fishes dropping and eating each other. I do not see though how this can be an error, like you suggested in your other thread @ForumPyrolight . There was a definite way for me to win at the point when the first yellow candies dropped. I am pretty certain I only failed because the dropped. At most I might have needed a lollipop to help me, this looks like deliberate "match fixing" to me.
Well, to find out you have an extra color on the board only after spending ten gold is something new and a new low for King if deliberate.
I don't know if it's yet another 'you shall not pass' tactic from King or a bug. If it's intentional, it's extremely cruel. King don't just want us to spend 10 gold, they want us to waste them.
What's odd is that it only seems to happen sometimes. I have only encountered them in the post-fail cascade once, and I have not had any attempts where I acquired more moves ruined by this so far.
Is it possible that an additional color is added when you crush a certain number of candies or achieve a certain score? I remember seeing this in some browser match-3 game a while ago.
I experienced an odd case of yellow candies falling today on level 328. I set off a UFO on my last move with quite a few jellies left on the board, and during the long cascade that ensued, I noticed a couple of yellows. I still had jellies left to collect at that point, so I thought I failed the level when I saw that. However, the yellows were eliminated by explosions, and no more yellows had dropped until all jellies were cleared, and I won. This makes the issue seem more like a bug to me because if King wanted me to fail and yellows were a tool, I would have failed.
Bonus track: Yellows and reds drop on level 7233 during a post-fail cascade.
I would tend to think that the yellow candies are part of the way King control the game outcome. I have just this moment come across something I saw in exactly the same format in a different level: On my last move yellow candies drop and create a colour bomb triplet. I think you noticed this once as well @MannyFae ? This is level 240 in my latest test game playing the finals, and I decided to pay up to play on.
I made the combo followed by the suggested moves.
This is what it got me to:
Those yellows dropped in order for me to pass by paying 10 gold bars!
The strangest thing was that I won the level where the yellows started dropping after they started dropping. Either the algorithm failed and allowed me to win, or it's actually a bug. That happened right when I started to believe that it was indeed a tool for controlling the level outcome.
Nice triplet 🙂 I'm unsure why King needed yellows to create color bombs on the last move, though. They never had any problems just forming them on the board out of nowhere to entice players to spend gold.
Good luck in the finals! I've not started yet. I want to find out if they really do unlimited leaderboards in the final rounds now. I'm quite perplexed by what happened in the Winter Cup. I'll start tomorrow, but if there are no unlimited leaderboards, I won't bother playing.
