Amazon just announced their Appstore will be closing. My Candy Crush game was download from the Amazon Appstore, and I have lots of booster on my device! After the Appstore closes, how will I get Candy Crush updates? And what happens to all my boosters on that device? How can I keep playing???
Hello @MonroeH the closure of the Amazon app store doesn't occur until August, so you have a bit of time to prepare.
Also if you use an Amazon device the app store will still work as the closure only affects non-Amazon devices.
As long as you are saving your game using a password and email address then you can just download the app from Google play store.
Your boosters are stored on your device, but I don't know if you download the same app onto your app if it will 'find' your existing boosters.
If you play on Android your current app will still work, but you won't receive any updates, so you could use that app until you exhaust all of your boosters and then download a new app

This applies to windows but might apply to other platforms. I found out recently that if you save your game your boosters are now stored on the servers I guess. I was able to delete the game and game data, reinstall, play some test game and when I actually signed back into my account, after the first level played, can't remember if I closed the game but I likely did, the next level I had all my boosters from the account back.
I think only lives are still locally stored.
I don't think boosters are saved on servers. They are stored on our phones and on our tablets. Anyone playing the same account on two devices will have different inventories with different boosters on each of the two or three devices. If boosters were served on the server they would be the same on all devices of the same account.
I have in the past logged out of my game and logged back in on the same device and found my boosters present, that I do remember. But I assume that is because I logged back in on the same iPad.
Ya it is not a case of simply logging back in, this is a case of completely removing the game and all game files, reinstalling, logging in and having the same inventory. If they were stored locally that should not be possible.
So there are three main possibilities:
While playing around with the user files, I did see a booster inventory. Changing this does nothing as it is update when the game starts. It is odd that a reference file like that would exist with no real purpose unless it is just legacy code. Not being able to see the save file is a killer as that would be conclusive proof one way or the other.
I suspect more and more is being offloaded to a server as that would help keep the cheating down.
If you are right and boosters are now offloaded in the server that would definitely be a means to keep cheating down. Some of the best and only cheats I have known of over the years involve boosters and I have always assumed that this is the one area of the game that King cannot manipulate and control because they cannot "see" our inventory. If they have found a way to change that they will gain full control over each account and take away the last method I can think of to beat the algorithm.
However, at a practical level I am not sure how offloading boosters into a server could be married with the way the game functions when we are playing offline. Our inventories change while we play offline: We do not only use boosters but we also gain them: The Season Pass is a good example for this. You can play the entire Season Pass to gain all the boosters while never logging into the app store or server at all.
I had a suspicion that the boosters are now stored on the server due to the new behavior I observed. If I gain boosters from Daily Treat Machine, Treasure Hunt, etc. and have to restart the game soon after, they are lost. Playing a level is the only way to prevent a loss, which probably triggers a sync with the server. In any case, something has changed in how the game handles boosters.
Oh boy, if this is true then I am losing hope for this game. I'm doing so well on my two test games that I don't want to delete them yet to run another test game at the moment to check out on this. I'm also not sure what test I could do to verify this.
Yes, you are both right. @MannyFae @Insertnicknamehere I've tested out playing offline and the boosters I apparently gained from the Daily Win this morning did not get added to the inventory. I suspect that the same will hold true for Season Pass which I can't test as it's not active today. King have definitely made some changes here. It does not practically affect the way I play the game at the moment, which is good. I guess that is also the reason I had not noticed it. I wonder if I will choose to play more and more offline now I know this. I don't like this Big Brother part of the game. I might just log in at the beginning and end of the episode race to gain the gold.
