I’m having the same issue. I reached out to support and they said not everyone gets to play and that it’s random. I’m so frustrated right now! I’m at the 15,000 level, but I don’t get to participate, while newer players do? Make it make sense

This is in fact incorrect and I have run multiple tests to prove this. Players at the lowest level ranges have to crush through just as many levels just as quickly in order to win their leaderboards as players at high ranges. The purple per level yield is roughly the same for all players now. If anything levels 5000-9000 probably have the better purple yield. I have calculated that any player starting with no boosters would probably have to spend at least about £3000 to get to the finals and would have to be able to crush at a speed of at least 45 levels per hour during the final knockout rounds. That puts all players pretty much on equal terms and favours those of us who have experience, lots of in game friends to supply us with lives, and some gold bars and boosters saved up. New players do not have those things and I think because of this they are actually at a disadvantage.

Having stated the above please don't anyone think you can buy your way into the finals: Anyone can win, but not everyone can. There are many millions of players fighting over 10 places.

I'm still trying to get into All Stars, and it occurred to me today that perhaps I might be harder to help because my accounts were not linked. Your analysis of how fast you need to complete a level is accurate!!

I also came to the exact same calculations in my playing. I've been playing candy crush since 2012 and it's my addiction. My day job is data analytics for Meta.

You need to be able to beat any level within 80 seconds to get to the final 10.

Where you say that 5000-9000 yields more purple, this is probably true. My strategy is actually starting at 1500, which enables me to complete levels faster because they are easier. Though they yield less purple, I've realized speed is the ultimate skill needed.

In regards to £3000 to buy boosters, I think it's much more than than. I think you need around £6000-7000.
