I suspect that you are not connected to King's server. This may happen even if you have a good internet connection. Close the game, check your internet and then reload the game. It might be a blessing since this game is very money hungry. Once you spend any real money you will never get to see ads to help in your game either. I would advise to try and play without spending any money unless you are rich and can afford it.

Can't play watching ads because the game aborts after the ads start. It was hit and miss before, now every time the ads play.
It says report ads in the chat but then chat says this... Several ads aren't closable and lead you to the play store. Especially SHEIN and Ibotta!
