Here is my personal experience with four accounts. I am relieved to have confirmed that my strategies and also my advice I have given here have proven to work. This all comes too late, of course, as we cannot know if the next round will be similar.
But what I have learned mostly is this:
The hexers will get hexed.
Whether this is because the app is interfering or because of the real behaviour of real people I don't discuss here, but I am sure the actual pattern is real: If we play a multiplier token we will get hit by players also using multiplier tokens. If we play a multiplier token early in the round, during the first two levels we play, then the leaderboard will be higher scoring and generally tougher.
To try to win without tokens play slowly and watch
Anyone apparently using a token in the previous rounds would only use one token. I think the app made sure of that. They then stopped and allowed us to catch up by playing lots of levels normally. Those who continue to crush steadily without tokens were able to catch up with the leaders.
Here is a player who did that:
Bruna had played a multiplier at the start. This leaderboard was a very early starter. To only be at the 40,000 mark after three days is very slow indeed. The Cosmos flower is within reach of the leaders and nobody is threatening to run away with it.
This player used the same strategy but joined two days later (Saturday). Allium played normally and steadily:
There is also very little activity on this board. Players were shown as "playing" but when checking their scores and player cards there was zero progress. This shows how little my opponents reacted to my slow and steady progress:
It may be that none of these competitors had any tokens left. It might be other reasons. But my advice to get one token's length into the lead and then observe proved to be the right strategy here. I just sat and watched:
It seemed risky, but it paid off for Allium.
Now to see what happened to the hexers in my next post.
