I do the same thing also. I only keep the active players.
Friend suggestions to new players are in my experience always useless.
I would say that it has nothing to do with new players at all it is just that the life system in general is very suspect.
I quite often receive friends requests and if the player is shown as sending lives in the last seven days I usually add them to my game.
Invariably once I have added them they might send a life request or two and play for a week, but then they stop. None of the new people I have added to my game at their request this year are still playing.

I don't think the app has truly active players in its database for new players. Whenever I invite all the players offered I never get any responses from any of them because they seem to all be inactive players. The "players who send lives" also are mostly useless:
These are screenshots from a new player account I started today. In my experience the best players to respond to friendship requests are those from events, the ones I click on during leaderboard competitions.
Deal_one is pointing out that whilst they are at level 10,000+ the friends of a 'similar progress' haven't even reached level 50, so I am not sure what you mean by 'useless in this case' @christinewupp
Yes i have @christinewupp but I believe they said you lose your friends and lives saved. I am still gone to try to get them back.
The similar progress option is useless in this case. Whenever I start a new game I get these type of offers as friends and they are always players who quit playing after having played a few levels and they never respond to invites.
I don't think anyone can help you with this issue @Deal_One as I know it is something that @cookiemae has suffered from for a long time. At least you have the 'similar progress' option to use as that doesn't appear in my game at all.
I think something went wrong when reloading your account. Your friends should show up when you click on "friends". Have you contacted Player Support about this? This is not right, as you say.
