Sounds like your playing on king.com you would be better off playing through Facebook or win10 app as king.com a little outdated now

Would progress made on the King.com website carry on through Facebook or would I have to start again. I don't play any of the King games on my iPhone, just this old MacPro!

Unfortunately, it started from the beginning (no idea why) but it doesn't matter. I'm having fun trying to get back to level 501!!

You can sync the game from King.com to Facebook and be on the same level on both platforms. Check more help on this here.
To sync the game to your iPhone, simply download the game from App Store and connect it to your King account.
