Why is my progress not properly registering?

I am able to pass levels, but whenever I open the game it opens to the previous stage I was on, and I have to go through the portal to my current stage and scroll to find my current level. None of the gift boxes I pass are registering, no matter how many times I open them, I've tried replaying levels to try resetting it, uninstalling and reinstalling (which put me back a couple of levels and made me lose all of the hammers/switches and candies I'd earned), I've tried syncing Facebook  (which I would prefer not to do) and obviously restarting my device. There are no updates on the app store and contacting king got me an automated reply about new levels (I'm only around level 800).

Anyone else had this problem/been able to fix it?
