Hello @mojomom and welcome to our wonderful community.  I'm sorry to hear that you are having this problem.  It sounds like your game may have temporarily lost its internet connection.

Try clearing your cache, make sure you have the latest version of the game and then shut down the platform you are playing on for 20-30 seconds.  When you restart your platform and then the game, hopefully that will have cleared up your problem and those features will reappear.  If they don't, then please comment below and include the make/model of the platform you are playing on and the software version so some further troubleshooting can happen.
