Slow internet, Game not connected, or some other reason, you may face such problems. You can check out some troubleshooting below.
Reset/Clear cache data from App Store - Check app update - Log out game - Restart Device - Open game and Log in.

Based on your description, it seems like you are not connected to your game/profile.
You may also try disconnecting your game from the internet/wifi, wait for several seconds and more before reconnecting it to the internet/wifi. Play a level and see if you are able to send lives to your friends.
Please do not reinstall your app as you will lose all your boosters because these are stored in your local device and not game server.

Looks like others are having the same problem...can’t connect to App Store or can’t ask fb friends for lives because it’s not connecting to Facebook. Another problem is that I don’t have the pictures of my friends.
